Speaker Biography
A/Prof Mervyn Koh is dually-accredited as a specialist in both Geriatric and Palliative Medicine. He is currently the Division Chairman of the Division of Integrative and Community Care that oversees Geriatric Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine as well as Community Care in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (First Geriatric and Palliative Care Hospital Departments started here in Singapore).
He currently sits in the Specialist Training Committee for Palliative Medicine and is a Board Member of the Singapore Hospice Council. He was also formerly the Head of Department for the Department of Palliative Medicine at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (2013 – 2020) and Medical Director of Dover Park Hospice (2020 – 2025).
He did his post-graduate training in Geriatrics and Palliative Care at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr Koh is also co-editor of ‘The Bedside Palliative Medicine’ and ‘The Bedside Communication Handbook’ and his diverse research interests includes Management of Delirium, Burnout, ICU-Palliative Care, Communication and leadership in healthcare. He was also part of the initial workgroup that worked on Singapore’s National Strategy for Palliative Care.

Singapore and Hong Kong are similar in many ways. They are both thriving global cities with a rapidly ageing population grappling with increased healthcare costs and challenges. Dr Koh will share the steps that Singapore has taken over the past 2 decades to increase awareness and the standards of palliative and end-of-life care as well as government initiatives to help the population to die in their preferred place of care.
